Six people are hit by a car each day in Toronto. As pedestrians, we can do our part by ensuring we are visible enough to be easily spotted by drivers, especially during the darkest days of the year after daylight savings in November. The aim of Hi Vis Day is to improve pedestrian safety through increased awareness of the benefits and use of high visibility clothing and accessories. We will be out in the streets of the GTA giving away Hi Vis pieces that can help improve the safety of those who wear them. A 2013 study by the city of Toronto identified the top 10 most dangerous intersections in the city for pedestrians. We'll be at these intersections over the coming days to tackle this issue head on. Today we are venturing to Scarborough to the intersections of Shephard Ave. E. and Ambrose Rd./Provost Dr., Steeles Ave E. and Ashcott St./Fenton Rd., as well as Steeles Ave. E. and Strawberry Hills Dr./Hillcroft Dr. to help raise awareness of pedestrian safety and give away a ton of Hi Vis! Let's stay safe out there!
